VITA has opened at the O’Connor Gallery in Gananoque, bringing with it a room full of canvases covered with exotic shapes and the vibrant colours aficionados have come to associate with artist Corey Ceccarelli.

“In the arts, it is essential to network with other creatives to share ideas and techniques,” said Dennis O’Connor, proprietor of the gallery. “This is important to the growth of an artist and unquestionably the growth of the arts itself. VITA is Italian for LIFE. Corey’s latest exhibition represents exactly that through all the stages of life, from conception to death. His medium is pastel and acrylic paint. He does an excessive amount of research before creating his work and is greatly influenced by both ancient and contemporary art. I’m sure we will see much more of Corey Ceccarelli in the future.”

The gallery was filled with well wishers as the local art set came out to appreciate and purchase items before they get snapped up. While the brilliant colours were everywhere, and the abstract shapes, with figures and ideas pulled from ancient art and cultures around the globe, the gold leaf had been kept to a minimum. In fact, it was most notably found on his costumed greeter, titled “Mona VITA”. But Ceccarelli will soon be off on another adventure to broaden his scope and further hone his artistic abilities.

“Corey is driven, driven to be the best he can be, and driven to express himself globally as an artist with a unique vision,” said O’Connor. “His determination will get him there. After multiple exhibitions here at the gallery, he has secured a residency in Berlin starting August 1 and lasting for three months. The experience will help him grow as an artist and allow him to network with fellow artists and galleries throughout Europe and beyond.”

VITA has something for everyone – from cubist portraits to wild dance performed on assorted backgrounds and a lot of esoteric erotica.

“Corey explores life with his art – often portraying movement and ideas that are fresh and different. It will be amazing to see what areas and ideas he will develop in his time away.”
