The Music Man marching its way to Thousand Islands Playhouse

(Gananoque, ON) Can even 76 trombones and 110 cornets save conman Harold Hill from the righteous wrath of River City if they should discover the truth about him? Or can Marian the Librarian work her magic to save him from himself? Find out when The Music Man marches onto the stage at the Thousand Islands Playhouse’s Springer Theatre in Gananoque starting on July 19.

“I’ve been working on this one for three years,” said Brett Christopher, Managing Artistic Director for the Playhouse. “It’s been a long haul to get it to finally see stage light.”

March 22 Last Day to Sign Up for General Auditions at Thousand Islands Playhouse

The Thousand Islands Playhouse will be holding general auditions on April 4. March 22 is the deadline to sign up in order to get a spot. This is a great chance for local talent to show what they can do.

(Gananoque, ON)  For more than 40 years, Canadians have been turning out to listen to the wit and wisdom of Lorne Elliott, homegrown comic/musician extraordinaire. Well, maybe not wisdom, but definitely good old fashioned home grown humour.

For three great nights (and one afternoon matinee) he has brought that well-loved style to Gananoque for fans old, new and yet-to-be to enjoy at the Royal Theatre. Last evening’s performance of “Collected Mistakes” was an intimate show treating everyone to a well mixed collection of stories and music familiar to the ear and still welcome to the heart. “‘Beneath Springhill’ is the incredible story of Maurice Ruddick, ‘the singing miner,’ an African-Canadian who survived nine days underground during the historic Springhill mining disaster of 1958,” said the Playhouse.  “This multi-award-winning one-man show recalls the events during the disaster, the effect it had on the rural Canadian community, and the racial tension that grew from it.  The play is a celebration of hope, courage and community.” Continue reading →

Poor Charles (Stephen Gartner).  Writers have troubles at the best of times, and getting good research is only one of many.  He was sure he had it all worked out – he would hold a simple séance at his home with local clairvoyant and medium, Madame Arcati (Anita Wittenberg), and not only would he, his wife Ruth (Krista Colosimo) and his friends, Doctor Bradman (Christopher Weddell) and Mrs. Bradman (Janet Michael), participate in some good clean fun, but there should be more than enough material.  His maid, Edith (Kelsey Gilker) would handle dinner and arrangements, and things would be perfect.  And so they were, until his deceased wife Elvira (Shannon Currie) decided to liven up the evening with a few antics of her own…
