(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) Gananoque celebrated in the early morning of August 22. A select handful of fishing enthusiasts gathered at the berm in Joel Stone Heritage Park to receive awards, prizes, donations and recognition for some of the great things that have happened this past year.

The “Gananoque, Ontario’s Ultimate Fishing Town 2013” (UFT 2013) committee was out in force to make sure all of the right people were recognized for their contributions. (GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) Gananoque is moving into a brighter future, according to Gananoque 1,000 Islands Chamber of Commerce President Joe Baptista. The Chamber held their annual breakfast, titled “Forward Vision”, at Cousins on King in Gananoque on Friday August 23. The three speakers for the morning’s program were MP Gord Brown, Leeds-Grenville; MPP Steve Clark, also Leeds-Grenville; and Baptista.

“We have a multi-faceted plan for the Chamber,” said Baptista. “One of the things that’s become very evident in this day and age is that the Chambers need to be run more like the businesses that we serve. This means running effective programs that meet the needs of our businesses and of our partners, providing services and leadership in a timely and relevant fashion, but doing so in a fiscally responsible way.” to read more

(ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY) A hush fell over the crowd as the guest speaker stepped onto the platform at the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority property on Collins Landing in Alexandria Bay, NY. The large white festival tent was filled to capacity and more, with 300 people seated and others standing in ranks four and more deep around the perimeter to listen to Brockville, Ontario, historian Brian Phillips speak on the 75th Anniversary of the Thousand Islands Bridge, which connects Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada with Alexandria Bay, New York, US. More than 2,000 people had come out to participate in the celebrations, which included musicians, vendors and a field of 360 antique cars and vehicles which were polished up and ready to show off for the occasion.

“It’s great to have Brian Phillips as a resource, because he’s taken the time and learned all about it and was able to share that with everyone here,” said Shane Sanford, Bridge spokesman. – to read more>

(MALLORYTOWN, ONTARIO) The 4th Mallorytown Village Fair, held on the grounds at the Mallorytown Community Centre, proved that once you’ve found the right formula, you just keep getting better and better.

Over 500 people came out to enjoy a step back in time on August 24 as vendors and entertainers, costumed interpreters and skilled craftspeople came out to let everyone see just how wonderful a time you can have.
