(LANSDOWNE, ONTARIO) The Board of the Lansdowne Agricultural Society (LAS) is delighted to have received some much needed funding from the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Community Fund. A cheque has been presented to them in the amount of $4,522, which will make a tremendous difference for the LAS and all who use their facilities.
“The Casino (Grants) Allocation Committee, with this generous funding, has recognized the need for continued upgrades to the buildings and grounds,” said Nancy Kehoe of LAS. “The grant money will be used specifically to paint both the men’s and women’s washrooms, decommission a well and build another sign board. Upon completion of the sign board more space will be available for interested parties to advertise.”
The fairgrounds in Lansdowne have long been a popular venue for many public events, but time had taken its toll on the buildings and grounds. This cash influx will help to maintain the high standards of the community concerning this property, as well as to encourage newcomers and visitors to use the facility more often.
“The Directors are delighted with the ongoing support of the Township,” said Kehoe. “Together with our sponsors, local businesses, volunteers and the entire community, we are able to add a host of new events for all ages to the fair this year.”
A much anticipated annual event, the Lansdowne Fair is in its 149th year and will run from July 19-21. To participate in the fair or learn more about the improvements as well as all the events held at the fairgrounds, please contact LAS at 613-659-2124 or visit them at http://www.lansdownefair.ca/ .
