ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS Rescheduled

PGA TOUR Canada – Tournament returns to Country Hills Golf Club in Calgary August 6-9

(July 4, 2013 – Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Oakville, ON) – PGA TOUR Canada has re-scheduled the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS, returning to Country Hills Golf Club August 6-9 in Calgary, Alberta. The tournament, originally scheduled June 20-23, was cancelled due to torrential rains and flooding in the Calgary Area.

The first round of the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS, now the fifth tournament on the 2013 schedule, will beginTuesday, August 6, with the tournament concluding Friday, August 9.

“We’re tremendously pleased our players will get another chance to play the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS,” said PGA TOUR Canada President Jeff Monday. “Thanks to the efforts of so many groups, particularly ATB Financial, Linx Marketing and Country Hills Golf Club, we’ve been able to make sure this tournament goes on and continues as one of PGA TOUR Canada’s marquee events in 2013. We hope to see many people in the Calgary area come out to watch some great golf in August.”
After nearly all of southern Alberta was affected by heavy rains in June, the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS was cancelled due to the severity of the flooding in Calgary.

“As southern Alberta was dealing with its worst flood on record, postponing the ATB Financial Classic was absolutely the right thing to do,” says John Windwick, ATB’s Vice-President, Community Initiatives. “The work to get Calgary and other southern Alberta communities back on their feet is far from over, but we’re thrilled the PGA TOUR Canada was able to re-schedule the tournament so quickly. Hopefully, the world-class golf at the Classic will help brighten what’s been a pretty tough summer.”

The demanding Talons course at Country Hills Golf Club will play host to a field of 156 players looking to finish inside the top five on the season-long Order of Merit and earnWeb.com Tour status for 2014.

“Country Hills Golf Club is proud to be able to work with PGA TOUR Canada and Linx Marketing to re-schedule the 2013 ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS,” said Country Hills President Robert Stefansson. “We are looking forward to hosting these great players on our challenging Talons course and to showcase the spirit of Calgary.”

Following the original cancellation of the tournament, former PGA TOUR Canada Player of the Year Graham DeLaet donated $1,000 per birdie he made on the weekend at the Travelers Championship. PGA TOUR Canada and ATB Financial along with Saskatchewan businessman David Dube matched Graham’s donation, raising $36,000 for the Canadian Red Cross and Alberta Flood Relief. DeLaet went on to finish tied for third, missing a playoff by one shot.
