(Gananoque, ON) Patsy Cline has come to Gananoque, and the Thousand Islands Playhouse may never be the same again. As Little Big Man spins the platters and reminisces, the music flows on down and everyone – everyone – is invited to join right in and sing along to those amazing hits from yesteryear.
Alison MacDonald doesn’t just play the part in “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline” – she is Patsy, from the moves to the look to that one and only voice.
Playing with MacDonald is Tyler Murree, performing many different characters from Grand Ole Oprey comic to Vegas comic to a variety of old time commercials which make the era come to life. He keeps you laughing and thinking and remembering from opening line to the inevitable conclusion.
Throw in an amazing four man stage band, and you have a show that can’t be beat.
“I loved it,” said 91-year-old Lois Creed of Dexter, New York. “I remember Patsy Cline – I remember the music, the shows, the stories of the ups and downs in her life as they came through the radio and magazines. It was like seeing her come back to life.”
The show consists of 21 songs in a wide variety of genres, all performed with that amazing Patsy Cline style. Beautiful costumes designed for the show by the Playhouse’s own Jayne Christopher add to the magic, and you find yourself transported through time to a wonderful era where the music reigned supreme, and Patsy was its true queen.
One of the season’s collaborative shows, it is being produced in association with Western Canada Theatre in Kamloops, BC, and comes to Gananoque as an already polished product just waiting to be enjoyed. It is completely understandable why this play was such a great hit when it played in Kamloops. Be sure to rush out and see it before it’s too late.
