(QUEEN’S PARK) – Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark is encouraging high-school aged students from the riding with an interest in provincial affairs and current events to apply to be part of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario’s new Model Parliament Program.
One student from each of Ontario’s 107 ridings will be chosen to participate in the three-day Model Parliament, which takes place at Queen’s Park in Toronto from February 19-21, 2014. Students will have the opportunity to meet key people in the Legislative Assembly, tour the legislature building and learn about its history, and study the legislative process through workshops and presentations.
On the third day of the program, students will participate in a simulated session of the assembly in the Chamber.
“I’m a strong supporter of the Model Parliament program and can’t wait to meet our representative from Leeds-Grenville,” said Clark . “There’s no better way to encourage young people to take an interest in the democratic process than by offering them an experience like this one.”
Those interested in the Legislative Assembly’s Model Parliament can learn more about the program and find the online application form by visiting: http://educationportal.ontla.on.ca/en/model-parliament.
The deadline to apply is November 30, 2013.
