(Gananoque, ON – December 6, 2024) The Young Company is bringing a family treat for all ages to the stage at the Firehall Theatre in Gananoque. Pirates Don’t Babysit! has everything that the young and young at heart could want in a theatre experience.

“The Young Company is a partnership with the district school board and the Thousand Islands Playhouse (TIP) and we are doing a show for young audiences,” said Isabella Paul, Young Company member.

This is not your usual school play. The script is filled with fun, adventure, and unexpected surprises. Nine-year-old Jenny (Presley Tamblin) is now a big sister and she hates it. Her mum (Leviathan Rieder) makes her stay home and look after the baby when she’d much rather be out doing something exciting – anything exciting. One day when Mum goes out to do some shopping, pirates come to the door and Jenny finds herself in the middle of an adventure that she never expected. They need her to help them find a buried treasure, but she has conditions – they have to let her become a pirate and join their crew and most of all, they have to help babysit. These pirates know nothing about babies or babysitting, but they really want that treasure. Hilarity and misadventure ensue as they screw everything up but come out on top in the end.

(Gananoque, July 5, 2024) Before DNA testing became the ultimate way to get an answer, it was a matter of faith as to who your parents were. You could usually be pretty sure about your mother, but your father was who she told you it was.  And if she didn’t tell you, or wasn’t sure herself, you might have to go to some pretty fantastic lengths to make sure he could give you away at your wedding.

When “Mamma Mia!” debuted 25 years ago, Sophie (Annika Tupper) wouldn’t be able to go to 23andMe to get a definitive answer. Instead, she had to rely on her mother Donna’s (Jessica Sherman) diary to figure out who he was, where he was, and how to get him to come to Greece so he can give her away at her upcoming wedding to Sky (Brandon Antonio). She shares with her best friends Lisa (Jen Fong) and Ali (Eva Petris) that she knows it’s one of three – Sam Carmichael (David Leyshon), Bill Austin (Jeremy Legat) or Harry Bright (Rob Torr), but which one?

The Music Man marching its way to Thousand Islands Playhouse

(Gananoque, ON) Can even 76 trombones and 110 cornets save conman Harold Hill from the righteous wrath of River City if they should discover the truth about him? Or can Marian the Librarian work her magic to save him from himself? Find out when The Music Man marches onto the stage at the Thousand Islands Playhouse’s Springer Theatre in Gananoque starting on July 19.

“I’ve been working on this one for three years,” said Brett Christopher, Managing Artistic Director for the Playhouse. “It’s been a long haul to get it to finally see stage light.”

Thousand Islands Playhouse ready with new COVID-19 safe season

Playwright Marcia Johnson, author of “Serving Elizabeth”, which will be gracing the stage at the Firehall Theatre from October 7-31. The Thousand Islands Playhouse is producing a special COVID-19 safe season of four plays following specific health guidelines as it brings live theatre back to Gananoque.

All the world’s a stage, and the Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque has found a COVID-19 safe way to get that stage filled with players and the seats with an in-person live audience to create a brand-new season for 2021.

“So many people reached out by phone or e-mail or text to say how much they missed us,” said Brett Christopher, managing artistic director of the Thousand Islands Playhouse in a presentation live-streamed on social media. “The last year has been an extremely challenging one for Canadian live performing artists. Music, dance, theatre canceled around the globe and many of the wonderful people that you see on the stages that work behind the scenes of the Playhouse productions have found their life’s work wiped out.”

Poor Charles (Stephen Gartner).  Writers have troubles at the best of times, and getting good research is only one of many.  He was sure he had it all worked out – he would hold a simple séance at his home with local clairvoyant and medium, Madame Arcati (Anita Wittenberg), and not only would he, his wife Ruth (Krista Colosimo) and his friends, Doctor Bradman (Christopher Weddell) and Mrs. Bradman (Janet Michael), participate in some good clean fun, but there should be more than enough material.  His maid, Edith (Kelsey Gilker) would handle dinner and arrangements, and things would be perfect.  And so they were, until his deceased wife Elvira (Shannon Currie) decided to liven up the evening with a few antics of her own…

(Gananoque, ON)  It’s time to go out walking after midnight with a brilliant two-person musical based on the life and career of superstar Patsy Cline.  As the opening show at the Thousand Islands Playhouse, it promises to be everything her fans could want and more.

Returning to the Playhouse for this production are actress Alison MacDonald as Patsy Cline, musicians David Archibald and Bob Arlidge, costume designer Jayne Christopher, assistant stage manager Michael Barrs, set designer Ross Nichol, and director Daryl Cloran.  New to the Springer Theatre stage are actor Tyler Murree as Little Big Man, musicians Dan Charbonneau and Duncan Holt, stage manager Lisa Russell, lighting designer Davida Tkach and sound designer Ben Malone.
