PGA Tour Canada – Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa to host PGA TOUR Canada event in 2014
(September 26, 2013 – Ottawa, ON) – PGA TOUR Canada announced Thursday that it will be coming to the National Capital Region in 2014 with the Forces and Families Open in Ottawa.
The Forces and Families Open, which will support the Military Families Fund, will take place August 4-10, 2014 at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario. Forces and Families, a volunteer organization founded in 2007 that supports the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families, will serve as the host organization for the tournament.
“We’re thrilled to be playing a tournament in the National Capital Region next year, especially one that supports the Military Families Fund,” said PGA TOUR Canada President Jeff Monday. “We were pleased to launch the Military Outreach Program to support the men and women of the armed forces earlier this year, and starting a tournament involved with Forces and Families is a natural extension of that relationship. We look forward to bringing some world class PGA TOUR prospects to Ottawa next season.”
Earlier this year, PGA TOUR Canada announced the Military Outreach Program, offering golf clinics from PGA TOUR Canada players and free admission for retired and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Net proceeds from the tournament will go towards supporting the Military Families Fund, which helps Military families in times of need, covering everything from counseling expenses to academic support.
A three-year agreement will see the tournament take place at the Hylands Golf Club through the 2016 season. Hylands, a 36-hole facility owned by the Canadian Armed Forces, will see its 7,010-yard North Course host the tournament. The event also marks the first PGA TOUR Canada event in Ottawa since the 2001 Eagle Creek Classic
“With Forces and Families, PGA TOUR Canada and a strong golf community in Ottawa starting with Hylands Golf Club, all the elements for a successful tournaments are right here,” said Tournament Director John Randolph. “The pieces are in place to make this a marquee event on PGA TOUR Canada next season.”
PGA TOUR Canada recently completed its inaugural season. The top five players on the Order of Merit each season earn Web.com Tour cards for the following season, the first step on the path to the PGA TOUR. Mackenzie Hughes, Riley Wheeldon, Mark Hubbard, Hugo Leon and Wil Collins finished in The Five in PGA TOUR Canada’s inaugural season and earned Web.com Tour cards for 2014. The full 2014 PGA TOUR Canada schedule will be announced at a later date.
