(LANSDOWNE, ON) – The Modler farm in Lansdowne was roaring with tractors as ploughs split the soil and opened the earth on August 30. Thirty-six young drivers were participating in a good natured competition between Leeds and Grenville as the 4-H held its Junior Ploughing Match, coinciding with the 100th Anniversary of the International Ploughing Match.

“It isn’t a good day for ploughing,” said Caleb Carmichael, 11, as he turned clods to help straighten a line. “The soil is too dry, and has a lot of clay. The ploughs aren’t heavy enough to break through, and you need at least two men standing on them to make the split.” – to read more>

WYNNE GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO SPIN ITS WHEELS ON GREEN ENERGY

(QUEEN’S PARK) – The Wynne government’s green energy folly reached a new low this week when it was revealed wind turbine companies are being paid not to produce power, said Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark.

“This sums up what a debacle and an utter failure the McGuinty-Wynne energy policies have been,” said Clark. “If the mess they’ve made of the province’s electricity sector weren’t sending people’s hydro bills through the roof and costing us good-paying jobs, it would be a joke.” – to read more>

(GANANOQUE, ON) – Autumn is upon us, with shortening days and cooler temperatures. Cornstalks are beginning to brown in the fields and the leaves are exhibiting their first traces of the fire to come as their edges flash scarlet and orange and gold. It’s time for pumpkins and apple cider, for thick, comfy sweaters, for gingerbread and mincemeat pies.
