(GANANOQUE, ON) – Two young lovers, a star studded sky and a “Salt-Water Moon”…

Prepare to spend a bewitching August evening on the front porch in Coley’s Point, Newfoundland, as 18-year-old Jacob Mercer (played by Edward Charette) tries every trick in the book to win back the heart off his one true love, Mary Snow (Shannon Taylor) in the Thousand Islands Playhouse’s final show of the 2013 season. He knows he’s been a heel. He left without warning, was away for a very long time – a whole year – and he hurt her terribly, but surely now that he’s back she’ll want nothing more than to fall into his arms and be his once again. – to read more>

(LYNDHURST, ON) – Saturday, September 21, was a day filled with torrential downpour and intermittent periods of drizzle. Most folks were staying inside grumbling about the conditions, but not the 12 teams of dedicated golfers who had come out to play at Lyndway Hills Golf Club in Lyndhurst. This was the first ever “Swing for Dreams” Golf Fundraiser for Dreams in Motion and they weren’t going to let a little wet weather slow them down.

“The Old English Pub and Re/Max Riverview Realty (both in Gananoque) sponsored this first ever ‘Swing for Dreams’ golf tournament at Lyndway,” said Glenda Olivier of Re/Max. “Lyndway Golf Club donated the course for the afternoon and the clubhouse for the evening in order for us to have the golf tournament here. Everything from the food to the prizes was donated. There were hole sponsors, etc., and we did a 50/50 draw as well.” – to read more>

(GANANOQUE, ON) – All of us are better when we’re loved.”

Truer words have never been spoken, and “No Great Mischief” is a love story, not of young and foolish people coming together on a star crossed path, but of the hard and sometimes almost impossible love of a man for his brother, and by extension, his entire family. – to read more>

(ESCOTT, ON) – As the days shorten, a mellow golden light brings out the colours of fall seeping through forest and glen, washing over the vines and the trees and spreading across the meadow below. And with the autumn days come cooler temperatures and the promise of a glowing harvest.

Each year, artists step forth from their studios to try to capture this magic on canvas. Called plein air, they move outside to grasp these fleeting moments and save them forever with brush and knife, charcoal and pencil, using any medium and working feverishly on canvas and paper until the darkness falls and the spell is gone. This year they have a real feast for the eyes and palette. Eagle Point Winery has opened its doors and is inviting them in for a taste of its splendour. – to read more>

(BROCKVILLE, ON) – Just as life itself is the true food of the gods, poetry is the sound of the soul singing its enthusiasm. And Brockville is finding itself to be vibrating with this music almost everywhere it turns.

An intimate gathering of poetry lovers draped itself around the shop on August 21 as the first public Poetry Evening was held at the “From Here to Infinity” Gallery located at 213 King Street West. This was the first in a new series of monthly presentations to be held on the third Wednesday of each month by the co-owners of the business. – to read more>

Yarnspinners Are Back with “As the Seasons Change”

by Lorraine Payette, written September 11, 2013

(BROCKVILLE, ON) – The days are getting shorter, colours soon deepening on the horizon from pearly light to crimson to velvety blues and blacks sprinkled with the twinkling gems of a starry sky. With the night comes mystery, and a time of enchantment. Who knows what might be there in the darkness? Perhaps an imp, full of mischief and ready to trick those around him. Perhaps a handsome knight out to save the beautiful damsel in distress. Perhaps the other way around… – to read more>
