(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) “The word is …”

The sweating, the tooth grinding, the agony, and… the right answer!

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee throws you right back through time, back to when lunch was fine if it was peanut butter and jam on white bread with a big glass of milk. Back to play yards and school bullies and whispering secrets with your best friends. Back to being 10- or 11- or 12- years old. Back to spelling bees, and all they could really mean. – to read more>

(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) Gananoque artist Pat Butchart is out to make life a better place, and she’s inviting the whole world in on her mission. Using her inimitable style of painting, she’s bent on bringing hope and happiness to all, one brush stroke at a time. Bright splashes of colour swirl, mix and blend before settling to form the framed images she has generously put on display from July 4 through August 6 at the Socialist Pig, located at 21 King Street East in Gananoque.

Yet while settled, these paintings are far from static. Instead, they carry with them a hint of the joy and life you feel instantly when meeting the artist. – to read more>

(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) There’s something not quite right on the Third Floor. Oh sure, condo living takes some getting used to, but still. It can be something as simple and silly as looking at people’s door mats, or it can be some annoying little habit.

When new neighbours meet in a hallway, the usual small talk is always expected. Who are you, what do you do, what do you like, where are you from… Chit-chat. But when she is pretty self contained and private, while he is wild, rambunctious, and somehow, very intense, it can lead to an interesting relationship. – to read more>

– The Shadow, 1930

(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) It all seems harmless enough. I mean, look at this place! It’s dreamy – and for a first flat, what more could a girl want? Of course, there’s that guy across the hall. He may be a little spooky, but there’s just something about him that’s so hard to resist… – to read more>
