Inaction on Municipal Elections Act Reforms Unacceptable: Clark

(QUEEN’S PARK) – Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark is renewing his call for the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to immediately introduce legislation to amend the Municipal Elections Act.

Clark says the amendments required include eliminating the excessively punitive penalty for the late filing of election expenses by municipal candidates. Currently, being even one day late in submitting this expense report means you automatically lose your council seat and can’t run in the next municipal election. – to read more>

And as the darkness closes around them, the stories will get wilder and wilder. Some will be quiet and intense, others loud and full of life and movement, for each teller is unique. A topic is determined each month, and they come together, eager both to share and to learn from each other.

(Kingston, Ontario) What happens when you take two great ideas and put them together? If you’re a beautiful older dog named Clover, the answer is a lot of love and a joyous ending.

Clover couldn’t help what had happened to her. Almost everyone loses something to time, whether they want to or not. A sweet little beige coloured “pocket husky” cross, she had developed various health issues with aging.

But not everyone loses their home over these things. Abandoned by her owners, Clover was found wandering the streets by the Timmins Humane Society (THS). And that was when the miracles started coming together. – to read more>

You are invited to take the challenge to end “fat talk” by thinking twice about using statements that are damaging to self-esteem and body image. “Fat talk” isn’t about being overweight. It is the language that we use about ourselves and others when we talk about dieting, losing weight and appearance.

Think before using statements like “I’m so fat.” “I need to lose 10 pounds” and “She’s too fat to be wearing that swimsuit.” Statements that are considered fat talk don’t necessarily have to be negative; they reinforce the need to be thin – like: “You look great!
