(ATHENS, ONTARIO) The Athens Historical Society was delighted to host an evening with historian Brian Phillips as they celebrated the unveiling of their new heritage sign located in front of the Joshua Bates Centre at 1 Main Street West in the village on August 8.

The presentation, entitled “Athens: A History in Pictures”, showcased an elaborate collection of photographs and other memorabilia from the community’s past, all punctuated with Phillips’ dazzling running commentary. His natural wit and sense of humour help to bring not only the historical material alive, but also generate interest in the process itself. – to read more>

“We want everyone to know that all proceeds from this event will go to helping out kids’ programs in Gananoque,” says Blake Richardson, professional fire fighter stationed in Gananoque. At $15 apiece, tickets are a great value. Boarding time is 5:30 pm with departure at 6:00 pm for a four hour cruise through the breathtaking 1000 Islands. (ROCKPORT, ONTARIO) All you gangsters and molls, listen close, there’s a new speak-easy in town where the music’s hot and the joint is jumpin’ till the milkman comes. Honey, you know what I’m talking about, and when the coppers bust the doors down, it’s 23-skiddoo!

All the swells are gonna be there in Rockport with the rum runners, flappers, gangsters, molls, and kiddos when they come out to paint the town during Prohibition Days, August 16 – 18.
