(MALLORYTOWN LANDING, ONTARIO) In the shade of the willows near the shore of the St. Lawrence River, aboriginal historian Darren Bonaparte patiently put some old notions to rest as he spoke to the assembled crowd on the history of wampum, part of the Aboriginal Day celebrations held at the St. Lawrence Islands National Park at Mallorytown Landing on June 23, 2012. (GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) A field of 500 participants were invited out to try their hand at the second annual Big Bass Challenge held in Gananoque from July 6-7. Early morning rain brought out the anglers and the fish were biting with a vengeance. This fantastic event took place on the St. Lawrence River and was open to amateurs of all ages and from all places who enjoy the thrill and sport of fine bass fishing. In addition to the fishing, the Challenge reached out to assist three charities – McKenna’s Dream, Ms Bassin’ and Tim Horton’s Kids Camps. – to read more>

Parade

(LANSDOWNE, ONTARIO) The parade swept grandly through the village on July 18, with chicken aficionados on every float, and marchers strutting their stuff. At four locations along the route, Dreams In Motion produced crowd pleasing flash mobs, doing the chicken dance and asking everyone to join in. The Colonel for the Day brought his “buck-buck-bucKET!” as chickens rode horses and bicycles. The St. Lawrence District Medical Centre marched as turkeys, and everyone fluffed up and flapped their wings to be their absolute best. – to read more>

(GANANOQUE, ONTARIO) ‘Twas a fair wind that blew the tall ship into port at the Joel Stone Heritage Park on July 11, ushering in Gananoque’s third annual Pirate Fest. All the usual crew came ashore – from Captain Jack Sparrow to Capt’n Tor and his Naer-Do-Well-Cads – and a few new ones came to join them, including Mermaid Michelle and pirates of every imaginable size and shape.

SLDMC Holds Exercise the Block in Lansdowne

(LANSDOWNE, ONTARIO) About 40 brave souls came out on June 1 and participated in the St. Lawrence District Medical Centre’s (SLDMC) first ever Exercise the Block event held in the village of Lansdowne on June 1.

“At this time, we have collected $4,036 from this one event,” said Heather Cross, President of the SLDMC.

The Centre is attempting to raise funds to complete a necessary expansion to its existing facility. – to read more>
